Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Fricks

Matt is a St. Cajetan alum (class of 2006) and a 2014 graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with a BA in Communication. Following his college graduation, he completed courses and trainings necessary to become a full-time substitute teacher and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Elementary Education.

Matt began practicing music when he was in 5th grade. Over the years, he has been very active in the Chicago music scene as a composer, performer, and recording artist. He also serves as the lead guitarist of local folk-rock band Railway Gamblers.
During his time in college, Matt focused his communication studies on analyzing media - particularly the medium of music. He was an active music blogger and conducted several research studies about the constantly-evolving music industry.
Vocabulary, composition analysis, and industry research are just some areas of focus in Matt's music classes. His main goal is to inspire students to think creatively about music and for them to find some resonance or significance in the songs that they hear. He is very excited to be teaching at his alma mater and always enjoys discussing the wonders of music with his students!

Fun Fact: In addition to his music activities, Matt is an avid Chicago Bears fan (and all of the kids know that)!
