My name is Lis Johnson. This is my sixth year of teaching at St. Cajetan. After five years as a 4th grade teacher I am now the school’s resource teacher. This position provides me another wonderful opportunity to serve the students of St. Cajetan.
I arrived in my job fully prepared by my education and experience! I graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in psychology and continued my education at Northwestern University whereupon I earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology. Following my schooling I worked in the counseling field specializing in children and families. My training in family dynamics was enhanced by parenting two boys along with my husband, Craig. During my tenure as a stay at home mom I was recruited by the Chicago Public Schools to become a certified teacher in their teaching fellows program. As a result I earned a second master’s degree in teaching with an endorsement as a learning behavior specialist from National Louis University. That led me to a seven year experience teaching 5th grade at Clissold elementary, a Chicago Public School.
My interest has always been in differentiated teaching and learning as well as understanding the student from a wholistic perspective. In addition, I have learned how essential a Catholic school is to a child’s education. I gain no greater benefit than helping establish a Catholic foundation in the children by my witness and teaching. St. Cajetan has been the place I’ve found that allows me the opportunity to teach in small groups and give individualized instruction. I feel privileged in my new role as a resource teacher and excited about all of its challenges and rewards in the year ahead.
