Our mission is to prove our students with an exposure to a variety of artists, including Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, George Seurat, Georgia O’Keefe, Mary Cassat, Henri Matisse and Andy Warhol is a primary focus of the art curriculum. Various artistic styles and examples are displayed and discussed, including Pointillism, Impressionism, and Optical Art to name a few. Students are encouraged to discuss, explore and create works of art that reflect lessons learned during the year. Skills and techniques incorporating crayons, colored pencils, oil pastels, tempera and watercolor paint are introduced, reviewed and practiced and their proficiency and understanding becomes evident in the final product.
The incorporation of a visual arts program is an essential component of the core curriculum. Students learn invaluable skills unique to the visual arts but most importantly the joy of creating and the feeling of accomplishment when a project is successfully completed.
